The Church in Smyrna went through some very difficult, trying times. Whenever we face seasons like those, it can be tempting to throw in the towel. However, their example of enduring faithfulness is a poignant challenge to persevere in faith.

Laodicean Christians had the reputation of being “moderate” in their faith. Moderation can often be a good thing, but if it amounts to a watered down and anemic faith life, it becomes a liability. Jesus longs for us to have a heart that burns hot for Him and His purposes in the world.
